Building C# DNN Module outside of DNN Solution ...

Hi ...

I am using Visual Studio 2005, SQL Server, IIS and DotNetNuke 4.0.3.

I am new to this enviroment coming from C++ COM ATL. I would like to build a DNN Module in C# to extend our DNN Site. I would like to use C# and I would like to build the Module outside of the DNN Solution.

I have found some samples (most in VB and some in C# ... the best being from Bo Norgaard http://www.dotnetnuke.dk/) All of these samples require the developer to add the Module to the DNN Solution and then build the entire solution to build the module.

Again, I would like to create a new Web Application in it's own project and then build the project outside of DNN and then allow DNN to use the module.

Can I do this?
Can you point me to some good references?

Yes, you can absolutely do this. Actually, I recommend this practice and use it on most projects. There really isn't anything you need to know about it, tho. Just create and manage a project as you typically would. The only draw-back is that you'll need to copy the files to DNN before you can use them. This sucks, but I created a small batch file that I setup as a post-build event. This way, every time I compile, the files get moved.

One note: If you don't make code changes, I suggest calling the batch file directly. If you don't, you'll have to deal with the app re-caching the updated assembly - even if it didn't change.
