using different modules and communicate between them
Greetings

i'm developing modules on DNN4 and I need to communicate between them, but I have a problem. I have a module named Student and a module named Contacts (of the student, and others users in the system), and I need to view and edit the contacts of a student.

On module definitions of the Students module I've added a control to the View page of the Contacts, with the control key as ViewStudentContacts.

On the Edit Page of module Students I've created a hyperlink that when clicked goes to the ViewStudentContacts control, to view the contacts of that student (the code: myhl.NavigateUrl = this.EditUrl("ViewMaterialAtribuido");). This seems to work, as I see the contacts that are on DB. The problem occurs when I want to edit a contact. When I click on the pencil, I go to a edit page but one that edits a student!!! My identifiers are named oid instead of ItemId, so when I click the pencil of a contact that has a oid eg 6, I edit the student that has the oid 6! And what I want is to go to the edit page of Contacts module and edit the wanted record!

One thing I've noticed is that the TabID is the same, in this process. I believe must change the TabID when I click for view the contacts. Is there any way to do this that is not by register controls and use the EditUrl method?

Any help is appreciated ::)

TIA

Almeida

Re: using different modules and communicate between them
You need to register the contact editing control as part of the Student module. Then, use the control key for it in the Student Contacts edit link. I believe this is what you're going for.

Re: using different modules and communicate between them

there are two options for your approach:

  1. Using URL, but in this case you need to force the detail view redering in the place of the list view module, and the second module needs to read detail ID from first module (you should rely on moduleID, not on tabID)
  2. using IMC, do a Search in the DotNetNuke forums at www.asp.Net, if I remember correctly, this has been discussed over there in detail.
