Starter Kit Install Issues

I installed the Starter Kit for 4.3.1 locally, built it, modified the web.config and everything worked fine.  I'm trying to deploy it to my host (hostdone) and am having problems.

My first question is should I be using the Publish option in VS2005?  The first time I tried this, it said that all data will be lost.  It deleted my aspnet_client and ASPSecured folders!  So I had to have my host re-install the .net 2.0.  Publish requires Front Page extensions.  Is there any conflict with this and .net 2.0?

OK.  So then after reinstalling the .net 2.0 for the domain, I zipped the contents of my local web root, uploaded and unzipped it to the root of my domain and modified the web.config for dns (connections and app).  I ran the site and was told that I couldn't access the db.  The databaseowner in web.config is set to 'dbo' and my host does not allow that.  So I changed it to the username that I used to create the db throught the hosts gui.

I ran the site and setup ran.  Here's the output:

The link above will bring you to the site.  I'm missing lots of modules and there's no site content (by default) that I have in my local site.

Could someone please help?

Re: Starter Kit Install Issues

You have a successful install locally because DotNetNuke picked up the modules from the root\install\module folder during installation, but when you copied your site to the host the PAs were never installed and registered on the host site. In other words you copied a previously installed site to your host when you were expecting to copy a fresh "uninstalled" version. <smile>

You can try to goto your site using http://www.yoursite.com/install/install.aspx?mode=installresources

If that doesn't work, copy the full DotNetNuke (install version) into your root folder, copy release.config to web.config, make your changes to SqlSiteServer as before and reinstall your host site. After it is working properly, then you can modify the core code and upload your new dlls.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Re: Starter Kit Install Issues

Thank you.  I really appreciate the help.  I couldn't get the .../install.aspx?mode=installresources to work for my starter kit version, so I did like you suggested and uploaded the install package.  Now, my question is if I make changes to my local, how do I synchronize my local version with the version I uploaded?  Publish?  What is the preferred method?

Once again, thank you very much.
