compiling an existing module

Hello,

I have had a module developed and i would like to compile it locally (i want to modify some functionality in the code behind)

What are the steps? i think many developers would be interested in that.

the programmer sent

  • a desktopmodules folder which contains a .dnn file and some ascx controls
  • a folder with the module name which contains .sln file, ascx files ascx.cs codebehind files, a dataobjectfolder ,properties folder and sql folder
  • an install folder which contains ascs, css and a dll file

I downloaded my site (which already has the module installed from a zip provided earlier) and I tried to put the folders in several combinations but unsuccessfully. I compiled the sln file but got an error that http://localhost/ something is missing

where do each or some of these files/folders go to for a successful compilation?

thanks

Re: compiling an existing module

"a folder with the module name which contains .sln file, ascx files ascx.cs codebehind files, a dataobjectfolder ,properties folder and sql folder "

This is the project folder you will need to work with - the other two folders look like deliverable versions of the project folder.

You will need to open the SLN file in Visual Studio 2005 full version - and not any of the express versions.

Re: compiling an existing module

i got this folder in a  web virtual at localhost/modulename  and was able to open the solution

question 1: i know from the module tutorials that the module has to be in the dnn to be tested., how to i merge the module files with the dnn files to test?

question 2: how to i make a zip file off of the module that can be installed in other dnns
