Manipulation of pages via SQL

Hello,

Is there a way to automate the production of a new page in DNN ?

As DNN seems entirely database driven it occurred to me that it is possible to build a new page purely via a SQL script to insert into SQL the new tabid and modules required via the 'Tab' tables, then to insert content into the HtmlText table.

Has anyone experience in this approach, or have any advice on how it might be achieved ?

Thankyou

John

John,

this is possible for sure, but be aware, that the database interface is not an official programming interface and might be subject to change. I always suggest to use business layer objects instead.

I am with Sebastian on this one.

if you really need to automate page creation, create a module that uses the various API calls to create a tab, insert a module, etc.  This way if you upgrade at a later point in time, the code will still work, even if there are backend changes.

Re: Manipulation of pages via SQL

Sebastian, Mitch,
Thankyou both for your inputs.

Can I read further on this - i.e. are the API calls documented ?

Regards
John

Re: Manipulation of pages via SQL

sure they are documented - in source code ;-)

unfortunately the documentation team is still working on the API description.
