Visual Studio 2008 trying to be "nice"... auto adding web.config

I use the WAP method of developing modules, the following would only apply to WAP because the WSP method already includes web.config.  Long story short, when I add certain controls (I've noticed it the most with the ASP.NET AJAX Control ToolKit) to my ASCX files and/or open them up to edit later, Visual Studio thinks it is being really nice and generates a web.config on my behalf.  Of course I really don't want it there, however, and have to delete it before I can pull the module up in my portal.  If I leave the ASCX up it adds the file over and over again so long as I keep deleting it.  Waaaaay annoying.

Anybody else have this problem and know how to resolve it; how to tell VS to stop being so "nice"?

Re: Visual Studio 2008 trying to be "nice"... auto adding web.config

Can't promise this works, but try removing or renaming the web.config OUTSIDE of Visual Studio. Visual Studio then sees it as missing, but still compiles. It doesn't appear to add another one. Haven't fully tested this.

I think it's a Microsoft thing, to continue to be that "thoughtful" aunt who keeps buying you things you don't want or need! lol

Sorry I didn't reply until now... that little workaround works great.  Thanks!
