On the downloads page is the install and source for version 4.0 and 3.0 if you scroll down farther you will see the individual modules. Click on the Text/html module and you will then be taken to a download page where you can download the Install or the Source code for the module.

This way you will have the source code for just that module. You can download the rest of the core modules source code this way too.

a) yes

b) yes, but it should not be more complex (only one more plattform for testing)

c) yes, this will be the same for DNN 3.3 and 4.1

Reasons: a) and b) correct, thought it won't be that quick to see DNN 3 disappearing.

It does, but what's the raionale for partitioning the source in 4.0? When I download 3.0, don't I get everything in one package?

DNN 3 source contains DNN3 install with modules and all ASP 1.1 source of VS 2003: framework and modules

DNN 4 source contains DNN4 install with modules and ASP2.0 source of the framework only (for VS2005), as the source code of modules is ASP 1.1 for VS 2003.

So VS2005 is not backwards compatible with VS2003 stuff?

What exactly would I need to do to be able to modify an existing module in DNN4? It would drastically lower my development time for an intranet portal I've just started setting up if I could modify existing modules instead of having to rewrite completely new modules.

Can I at least view the code for the modules in some way? When I check the source aspx files (I've downloaded the source packages for a few modules off dnn.com) I can't see the vb code for it like I should (If I use the new module wizard in VS2005 I get aspx files with the VB code). I'm a VS newbie, more at home with php so any help here would be nice.
