QUERY: need help in modifying DNN 4.x to be a fully fledged database
I need help/advice on extending & modifying DNN 4.x system.

I have a company database windows program to be emulated as a web application. I chose DNN 4.x because it looks professional and powerful.

There is notion of a record, that has many additional data attached to the record (eg. panel1, panel2, panel3). I want panels to be static (one of each), and auto-refreshes depending on which record is focused. There can be more than 1 record opened/viewed at a time.

So I guess a record can be implemented as a DNN module, as well as the panels.

PROBLEM 1: DNN does not allow dynamic loading/insertion of modules. This would be great. I could have a windows-explorer-like module at the bottom of the page, and click on a record to load up. The record module is inserted at the top of the 'content pane'. So effectively we have a list of opened records. We also need a close button to close the record too and dynamically removing it from the content pane.

I also need to change the current menu system so that I can toggle on/off panel modules. These panel modules would reside at the side columns (left or right pane). They would dynamically load/remove or show/hide.

When I click on a record (in the content pane) to be focused then I want all the panels (in the left or right panes) to auto-update to show the extended data about the focused record.

PROBLEM 2: When we load/remove modules, how can we retain all the other modules without having them being regenerated? Is it possible to use AJAX UpdatePanel on all DNN modules?

Re: QUERY: need help in modifying DNN 4.x to be a fully fledged database
I just learnt that I can use admin/ControlPanel/iconbar.ascx.vb AddModule_Click(). I modified it to be able to toggle my panels on & off. I should be able to add in my record modules too.

However, am wondering how can I pass in parameters to a loaded module?
