DNN Modile application (again)
Hi all,
I know the subject is not new, but I want to bring it up again...

First of all, what's the status of dnn mobile support development?

Although there is no support for mobile devices right now, I need my app to be mobile enabled.
It looks like I'm going to implement it by myself... and I need your help.

There are two things that should be different on the mobile application
1. Skins - the skins does not look good and must be thinner than the regular skins. The solpart menu is a disaster on mobile devices and needs a replacement.
2. Modules - My custom modules will have a mobile version which is less graphical and smaller.

When the request comes from a mobile device I want dnn to use the the mobile skins and modules.
And when the request is a normal browser - display the "rich" skins and modules.

Anyone tried to do it? what changes needed to be done?

If it is not possible, I will go the other way:
My skin and modules will "know" when the client is mobile and render accordingly.
This is not a good solution in my opinion, but maybe the best possible...

Suggestions are more than welcome.
Thanks,
Hadar

Re: DNN Modile application (again)

I am (and have been) trying to tackle this same situation for a long time.  I need a mobile inventory application to integrate with DNN (why recreate all of the data access, membership, etc?).  It appears that you received no answer to your query, so I assume no one has done this or is even considering it.  What solution did you come up with?  Would you mind sharing how you setup the framework of your mobile web app in order to utilize DNN?

Thanks,
Ling

Re: DNN Modile application (again)

If the mobile browser supports java (such as Opera-Mini or Thunderhawk) DotNetNuke should work fine (considering you also adjust the css).  One quick workaround for SolPart is to use an hmtl module in the left pane with links to your menu pages, and then only use a single panel for displaying most pages.

I have a project in the summer for a mobile app using DNN so I will definately be following and contributing to this thread.

Re: DNN Modile application (again)

I would prefer not to run the full portal skins within the mobile device.  The footprint is just not designed for that size screen.  My desire would be to write a mobile asp.net application that utilizes the full functionality of the DNN framework.  Chris Onyak has put together a mobile application that utilizes a web service.  I have asked him how to get started on setting up a web service that ties into the DNN framework.  Once I get started, I think I could integrate any functionality I may need into the mobile application.  Hopefully, I can summarize the procedure here when I get something back from Chris.

Re: DNN Modile application (again)
I would LOVE to see this done. I want my DNN sites to automatically detect mobile devices and render simple, slender pages (like google and its other sites do).  I would just do it myself, but my ASP.NET skills are only intermediate (and I have no time) and I would like to see something done well for the community to use.
