It would be good to have this in a FAQ of some sort.

I know in hindsight it seems obvious to only use caching for static pages but I looked at caching to help with page loading speed.

Yes caching isnt disclaimed about speed, its part of the nature of Internet programming.  There are other things to do for speed though, at least you have more options.
