Rodney:

How hard would it be to modify your CodeSmith templates to remove all the portions related to the creation of the DAL objects and just leave the creation of the CRUD SPs? I have no experience with CodeSmith by the way.

Re: Is it just me or are data providers done wrong?
I haven't looked at the DAL+ SPs but this is usually the easiest part (they are separate templaters, so no need to remove the non-DB parts).

I don't the datalayer has changed but but this should not be too hard... (I use the DNNJungle templates modified slightly for paging and sorting in the DB)

Thanks,
Rodney

Rodney:

You now have another alternative when dealing with the DAL+, instead of creating all the DAL components for a given module, you can just use methods similar (or basically the same) to the MS Data Access Application Block. You may want to take a look a this excellent tutorial by Michael Washington (go directly to Page2):

http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN_ShowMeThePages/Default.htm

This is what I'm doing and it works well for me. (If only I could automate the SP creation it would be great).

Thanks for that Carlos,

I will be looking into all of this at some point in the future when I get some time to spare (ever? ;)

Thanks,
Rodney
