DotNetNuke 5?

I'm am getting ready to create a business site with DotNetNuke and there will be a lot of customization. Are there significant changes in DotNetNuke 5 that might be worth waitng for? Is there a timeline of when that will be released?

thanks

Nick

Re: DotNetNuke 5?

There has been a lot of information posted in the blogs over the past few months in relation to the changes coming for DNN 5.

Timeline is posted here, but is a little off :)

Re: DotNetNuke 5?

At the OpenForce Connect meeting last weekend in Orlando, the word (direct from Shaun, Nik, Joe, and Scott) was that DotNetNuke 5.0 won't have any "breaking changes" and that upgrading from 4.8.x to 5.0 should be seamless.

That said, I'm sure that there will be things that might be easier to to in 5.0, but I wouldn't wait.

Re: DotNetNuke 5?

I've been working on a business web site for the past 2 years and am now in the process of integrating the website into DotNetNuke. This means turning all the current .aspx pages into .ascx controls. I've integrated the data from my web site into DotNetNuke's sql server database. This is a major commitment to DotNetNuke and I think my greatest concern is how the upgrade to version 5 will affect the customization that I'm going to be doing.

We've spent $120,000 creating this web site so far and it was my decison to use DotNetNuke. This is a pretty major deal. So, does doing an upgrade rewrite any custom code or delete any custom tables in sql server?

thanks

Nick

Re: DotNetNuke 5?

Nick,

there will be nothing overwrittten or deleted, as long as you kept your fingers out of the core code ;-)

Any upgrade does replace all core files, if you need a modification, create your own module or provider and integrate it.

There are no breaking changes in DNN5 regarding provider interfaces and all modules using "official" interfaces will continue to work.
