Clay, Gumbosoft's Google Checkout Shopping Cart module is only $40 (plus tax, maybe?) and the module + source is $70.

Re: Your thoughts on store module AliCommerce

Frank,

Thanks for this. The functionality that I think is important is as follows:

  1. Related products, also bought products, featured listing
  2. Add the ability to have the product associated with more than one category.
  3. Include attributes such as length, width, height and weight for each product for use in shipping modules
  4. Provide a payment and shipping provider interface for custom implementations of these modules.
  5. I live in Sydney and some seemless interface to Australia Post would pretty much guarantee you the Australia DNN market.
  6. Integrate with .netship and .netcharge.
  7. Refer to friend
  8. Different product pricing for different roles, users and/or countries

As a developer, to be able to purchase the source code is crucial for our own support to clients. The inability to provide this feature makes it difficult to guarantee our support to clients. This is critical when it comes to making such a choice.

Kind Regards

Paul.

You can post your thoughts here or send it to me by email. Any comments are welcome.

Hey Frank,

Smart-Thinker uses a 10 portal license and a 100 Enterprise license. A lot of developers are now charging for a single portal, but that is quite harsh as I like to specifically break my sites up onto single portals if they are anything serious.

I blogged about DotNetNuke portal licensing - you may find it interesting...

I personally don't have time to maintain single product licenses, so I bunch all Smart-Thinker products into a Suite (they function better together anyway) and instead of charging $70 for a single module and then x% of that for upgrades, I use a hybrid model where you get the whole suite for $70 and supprt/upgrades for 2 months after that. I give a 30% discount to customers who purchase support blocks for a year. This model allows me to spend more time developing and less time dealing with product pricing, upgrades and fiddling around with customer accounts, but it's not 100% perfect - it depends on your situation and requirements as normal.

Thanks,
Rodney

More about comms.. contribute to the core forums and use your signature to market your wares. Obviously it comes across bad if you're only looking to respond to store-related threads. More useful and ultimately even easier is to respond to anything you can help with and buld your rep on that. Keep your sig tidy and up to date with developments - there are a lot of stale sigs in the forums.

Great marketing tips Rob - bear in mind with the stale forum sigs that for almost the last year you cannot add signatures on the DNN core forums, and when I did try to change mine it dissapparead... I have lost a LOT of SEO benefit and business in the last 9 months due to this.... hot tip - do NOT update your signature... I am annoyed about this as I am a Gold Benefactor and having a good sig makes more more inclinded to post on the forums, which means community growth and knowledge spread... *sigh* (mini rant stiffled ;)

Hi Rodney.. cripes.. have the sigs been disabled on purpose or is it just something temporary? I dont' have one myself but I think they are a vital incentive to getting knowledgable people to post. Could you maybe have a sig standing by in notepad for pasting into posts?
