Timeout when installng modules

I just upgraded a handful of sites to 4.8.2 - very easy and successful in every case.

But I am having an issue with the installation of a module. I've tried all three ways I know to install a module - via "Install a Module" in the Module Definitions page menu (at page top); by uploading the PA and using "Available Modules" on the lower part of the Module Definitions page; and by navigating to install/install.aspx?mode=installresources

In every case, I get errors that appear to be timeouts. There seems to be application recycling connected. This particular module is a suite of four modules, and Event Viewer shows that two of them get upgraded, and not the other two.

On the CataLook site I've noted that they are breaking CataLook apart into three chunkcs for installation on 4.8* due to this kind of experience. Granted, CataLook is much more sizable -  but that's part of the point. This suite of four modules is NOT that large that anything should be timing out.

Anyone else having issues installing modules in 4.8.1 or 4.8.2?

Thanks -

Re: Timeout when installng modules

I haven't installed 4.8.1 or 4.8.2, but I did have timeouts when installing modules on 4.7 .  I fixed the timeouts by setting the timeout in ASP.NET configuration settings in IIS to be 2000 seconds instead of the default 120 (or 90, I forgot) seconds, and reinstalling.  It took time, but eventually installed, rather than timing out and quitting altogether:

IIS -> right click virtual folder of DNN site -> Properties -> ASP.NET tab -> Edit Configuration -> Application tab -> "Request execution timeout (seconds)" ... change this, save changes, then reopen your site and try the installation again.

Maybe it will work for your problem.

Cya

Re: Timeout when installng modules

What appears to be happening upon start of module installation: FIrst, a file manager error "Thread was being aborted" and perhaps a second more or less empty file system error (but not always); then an "Application Shutting Down" Event; and then  the first two modules installed events are logged.

That leaves two of the four modules (in this particular case) uninstalled.

So there appears to be something wrong that is triggering the application shutdown, which causes a filesystem error, and by the time the application recycles, too much time is eaten up and it times out.

I"ve not had this experience before (I just upgraded in several cases from DNN 4.5.5 to 4.8.2, so missed everything in between).

Known isues here?
