What are the benefits of Page Templates?

I haven't used Page Templates yet and wonder what the benefits of using them are. Can anyone help me out?

Re: What are the benefits of Page Templates?

page templates allow you to export a populated page into a file and use it as a template to create a new page as a "clone" containing same modules and content.

Re: What are the benefits of Page Templates?

I am looking for the same info, since I am developing a portal with 5 template-like pages...

I dont want the editors to mess up the default layout of the pages.
