Although I'm not in the loop, I believe the release includes fixes for some low (to medium?) severity security issues.  Details on these are typically kept private in Gemini, so that would explain why there are no entries there. 

Cathal recently said that he would create shell work items once the release is made which link to the relevant security bulletins.  I see that he did so for 4.8.3, and I thought that this was very helpful.

FYI 4.8.4 will fix 3 "low" security issues. I've added issues for them in gemini, but won't be marking them public until we release 4.8.4 (hopefully next few days)
