Evaluation Questions

All,

We are in  the process of evaluating 3rd party CMS to replace our core product. However, I do have the following questions, and would appreciate it if somebody can assit in providing information.

1. Can you with DNN create a staging site, and a live site for a customer, and then make staging live, and or how would one simulate a publishing feature? I saw one post that you can mark content for 'Admin' only, and after it's been 'approved', make it visible to all users. Any other ways? If so, could you explain how one would go about it?

2. I take all content is dynamic, and no content gets written to disc?

3. Does anybody know roughly 'estimate / guestimate' how many live commercial sites are on DNN?

Thank you.

Re: Evaluation Questions

Hello,

1. no, there is no built in automatic staging, this is a feature we're looking at for a future release - in fact we're hoping to introduce full workflow support so content can go through a series of stages before final publication. In the meantime some people do use module/page permissions to make content invisible to normal users.

2. yes, all content is stored in the database, however when a page is generated if it's available to anonymous users we do create static pages to improve performance. In addition we make use of cache to reduce the number of database calls.

3. it's impossible to say -there are nearly 600,000 users & more than 5 million downloads. http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ShowcaseSites/tabid/541/Default.aspx has a small selection of sites.

Is that a new feature?

Must be, doesn't seem to be happening in 4.8.3, haven't loaded 4.8.4 yet.
