I enabled the search indexer on my site and now it works.

But when I copy the rss url and past that on another page in a feedexplorer nothing is shown.

I used this OPML text :

        http://localhost/MyVirtDir/Nieuws/Ontwikkeling/tabid/60/moduleid/389/RSS.aspx" />

anyone ?

Pepijn

i think that is a problem in the feedexplorer you are using. If the url returns something when you enter the url in the browser, thats all you can expect from the core. Please verify that the feedexplorer supports the rss version as used by the core (that might not be the newest one). you might need to use a different news feed module to display the feed (eg. the dnn news module, or one of the commercial ones that are available)

Re: Activated Syndication in module setting, but...

That's strange,

I use the default feed explorer which comes with dnn 4.7.0. And when I use that feed explorer with an (directory repository module) syndication of www.dotnetnuke.com (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/ResourceDirectory/tabid/702/moduleid/2784/RSS.aspx) I do see results in the feed explorer. Same xml version, same rss version.

More ideas ?

I will answer myself :-)

The problems I've had with the syndication of standard dnn modules and use of the default feed explorer :

  1. No syndication with modules
Erik explained; enable search indexer. Problem solved
  2. Syndication with modules, but no output in feed explorer
Fiddler revealed call from the feed explorer to fe3.pipes.re3.yahoo.com, I guess that from that place the rss feed (the syndication) is accessed.
problem here is that the website I am talking about is an Intranet site not accasible from the outside :-)

For now I've decided to leave the explorer for what it is, also due to the fact that the search datasource of dotnetnuke is used (I guess you can't just show the current items of an announcement module, you will see all of them, current, expired, future ?)

Thanks for reading this thread anyway

Pepijn

Re: Activated Syndication in module setting, but...

Thanks for getting to the bottom of this.

The issue with search and announcements is indeed that all items are indexed. I will try to add a fix to the ISearchable implementation to exclude expired and future items though. However.. i am not sure what happens with items that already have been indexed...

My goal for next year is to come up with an announcements specific rss feature that will give more granular control...
