Modify announcements module

I would like to use the announcements module to show a future events when the user is not logged on.
So I think the olny solution is modify the core of module.
I downloaded the module source.
I use visual studio 2008 and when I open the .sln starts conversion wizard that doesn't work fine.
1) What is the correct procedure to modify, recompile and apply my revision?

I have 2 machines:
In the developer machine I installed the starter kit.vsi and I would like modify the module here.
In the deploy machine I installed dotnetnuke working.
2) It is necessary I install dotnetnuke in the developer machine?

Thanks
Bruno.

Re: Modify announcements module

starterkit = dotnetnuke.. they are not different

This version of the module was created using vs2005, so when you open in vs2008, it will convert the project for you.

There is a catch though: VS2008 is way more picky about project urls than vs2005 was. The projecturl i used was http://production.local/460. This URL is persisted in the module's project file. Prior to opening the module's solution in vs2008, you should change that url to your own URL (eg. http://localhost/dotnetnuke). To do that, open the file DotNetNuke.Announcements.vbproj in NotePad, scroll to the bottom, and change the contents of node Project/ProjectExtensions/VisualStudio/FlavorProperties/WebProjectProperties/IISUrl/
