Need help setting up Announcements module to be able to be modified

Basically this module matches what I need for a project I am working on except it does not store a user selected time stamp for publishdates and end dates. So just need to mod it a little, however whenever i get it setup without the dlls it will not load properly. I have it all set up properly but it will not recognize the namespace in the codebehind BUT it recognizes it when I have the dlls in and it becomes ambiguous. I.E. if its not recogized with the dlls removed why is it when it is loaded.

Anyhow if you could explain how to set up the announcements module so it can be modified it would be a great help!

Cheers!

Re: Need help setting up Announcements module to be able to be modified

you need to download and install source code package of the module in your DNN installation, make the changes and recompile (do NOT build the web site!)

make sure, compiled .dll gets copied into the /bin folder to be effective.

Re: Need help setting up Announcements module to be able to be modified

Thank you for your post. Sorry I didnt explain my situation better the first time. I can make it work with the dll. However the code I need to change is in the dll....

Or are you saying to recompile the source files into a new dll after I have made changes?

Cheers!

Re: Need help setting up Announcements module to be able to be modified

as sebastian said, you need to download and install the source package first

next: open the vbproj file in notepad, and make sure the iis urls point to the specific url of your development instance.

next, open the sln file in visual studio (it is still vs2005, so if you are using vs2008, you are asked to upgrade the package)

NB: if you decide to make changes, it would be wise to change the modulename, namespaces, and the name of the dll's you are compiling to, otherwise, if anyone decides to upgrade to a future version of the module, he might get into quite some trouble

can you please explain what you mean by this?  Do you mean you not only want a date but also a time in the publish and expire date fields?

I am working on a new version of the module, and adding time in those fields is quite trivial... i can see if i can include it for the next version....
