marker editor bug

Map version 1.00.09
DNN version 4.08.00
Site hosted at GoDaddy.com

When I choose Interface from the Map Module's Control Panel
I have 8 markers, 0 to 7. I choose to edit the 6th one (index 5).
Before I click on the pencil I see that the foreground marker image is blue_30x30.gif and the shadow image is yellow_30x30.gif.
(the images are distinctly different enough that I know which they are from looking at the table/grid)

After I click on the pencil/edit ctl I see the information ready for editing and everything is as it should be ...
EXCEPT that the file selected in the shadow section is the same name (blue_30x30.gif) as the image.
Somehow it has forgotten about yellow_30x30.gif - the just-a-moment-ago shadow image.

The file list has 16 names in it from a folder called mapmarkers.
The first is a ZIP file
blue_30x30.gif is the next one (the first actual image file)
yellow_30x30.gif is the last one ...

I have another marker made with two other gifs - neither of which are the first or last ones in the list and it happens there as well.

After I checked that marker I went back to make changes to the original one mentioned, blue/yellow
(I had not left the 'Interface' section of the Map Contro panel)
When the info for that marker popped up green_30x30.gif was the selected file in both marker and shadow ... they should have been blue and yellow respectively.

Initially my thought was that it was a minor inconvenience ... but I soon realized that the layout of the markers data shows the marker pictures but not their filenames. IF you're doing what I'm doing and have pictures that look very similar in both their image and filename you run the risk of losing track of what the actual files used in that marker you are now editing were before you clicked the pencil.

I just checked to see if the filename was available in a hover in the browser - nope.

In Firefox when I right click on the image (in the markers table grid) and check the properties I see location, size, and other things - BUT not file name ...

Oh yeah, two more things before I go:

In  the Map_01.00.08_Documentation.pdf it says on page 8:

Set the Anchor X Y. The shadow image will be anchored to be overlapped by the marker Image at that location. These values are in Pixels.

This is misleading ... it does not affect the shadow offest in my experience.

It DOES affect the marker's relateive palcement to the position though.
+X sends the marker west/left and -X sends it right/east
+Y sends it North/up and -Y sends it South/Down

The second thing is minor:

As per examples I was using PNGs, transparent ones.
I brought my map up on a friends machine that was running IE6 under XP under bootcamp on a MAC.
The PNG's I'd installed the night before were visible but not transparent.
The ones I'd just installed were completely missing ... when I went to look at them in the File Mananger they had an 'A' beside them which I think means the archive flag ... but that may be a red herring. I made them with a different machine so maybe there was something about that ... I dunno.

Anyways ... I changed the PNG markers to GIF's and now that machine/browser happily sees them as transparent.

I'm having fun though ... last night I made animated markers with animated shadows and they worked :)

Thanks for all your work.

Thanks for the information, I'll go ahead and test these out and begin correcting the issues you have found.

Re: marker editor bug

Hmm ... how would I post Markers & Shadows?
(mine are GIFs)

Newbie that I be I can't seem to see any way to post pics with this reply.
The editor's image control wants a file on the site and the link control doesn't do <img>.
If I pointed you at a map with markers in place it wouldn't show you the individual files
or give you the parameters that were fed into the 'Interface' section of the control panel.

So how do you get pics to show up in these posts?

Re: marker editor bug

Actually - i just found a pretty slick utility for generating shadow images for use as map markers. Upload an image and it generates the shadow for you!
