Showcase and Blog idea
Modified By wildfiction on 7/24/2006 7:21:38 PM)
Does anybody have a showcase web page where the report module is being used? I am thinking about using it to show the latest blog entry as per this post. ...but not sure if there's a better way to accomplish this... Using the same logic you could show the most recent 3,4,5 etc. forum postings...
ver 4.3.1 (to 8 July 2006) ver 4.3.2 (to 20 July 2006) ver 4.3.3 (to 5 Aug 2006) ver 4.3.4 (to 20 Sep 2006) ver 4.3.5 (to 25 Dec 2006) ver 4.4.0 (to date)

Re: Showcase and Blog idea
I'm not aware of any showcase web pages, but if someone else knows of one please post it! Personally, I'd love to see where it is being used, and it might help others find out ideas.

As for your question, right now the Reports module can only render a simple Grid for the data you retrieve. So I don't think its suitable for showing the latest blog entry.

I am doing research into the ASP.Net ReportViewer control which would allow you to use a graphical designer to create a report description and then upload it to your server and have it rendered on the page. I'm also looking in to using XSLT to allow admins to design their own way of translating the data into HTML to display on the page.

Re: Showcase and Blog idea
The main use for the report module I see is as an admin task to keep track of certain "things" in the system that are not readily available by other methods.

To that ends, it would be useful if anybody could post sample SQL scripts that they use to glean info about their setups that help them manage their portals and sites.

For example, I wrote a piece of SQL (can't get to it right now or I'd post it) that showed me any duplicate email addresses in the DB - useful if you're switching from non-unique to unique emails on your portals.

Re: Showcase and Blog idea
Great idea! The Reports module actually includes an Import/Export feature so that you can export your Queries, but there is an issue with it that I am currently fixing so for now feel free to post some SQL Scripts in the fourms.

I am hoping that we can create a sort of small repository of cool reports here so I'm going to try to set up a Sticky thread that will stay on the first page so I can list interesting SQL Queries that I come up with and that other users send in!
