How-to, Getting Started and Tutorial question

Is there any kind of Tutorial or Getting Started type of document or information on actually using the Report Module?  Installation was smooth, but not sure how to start using it.

Thanks.

Re: How-to, Getting Started and Tutorial question

There is some basic information on the Online Help page at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/DotNetNukeOnlineHelp/tabid/787/Default.aspx.

Look under Modules > Standard modules.

Please note this Help resource is for reports version 04.03.01. I am currently updating this resource with the latest help and plan to have it up within the next 4 weeks.

If you have any particular questions (which are not programming) feel free to list them here and I will try to work them all into the next update.

Re: How-to, Getting Started and Tutorial question
Ok. How does one go about building an HTML template for displaying the report? Are there some sort of tokens that get entered inline with the HTML? Is there a way to display the parent record once for multiple children so one gets sort of a outline format for the report instead of a grid format where a parent (key) is displayed with each child? For example..

Instead of a grid like ..

- Country1, State1, City1
- Country1, State1, City2
- Country1, State1, City3
- Country1, State2, City1
- Country1, State2, City2
- Country1, State2, City3
- Country2, State1, City1
- Country2, State2, City1
- Country2, State2, City2

I would like it to display the related parent only once like..

- Country1
------ State1
--------- City1
--------- City2
--------- City3
------ State2
--------- City1
--------- City2
--------- City3
- Country2
------ State1
--------- City1
------ State2
--------- City1
--------- City2

Any way to do this in the report module? with an HTML template? What would the syntax be?

Re: How-to, Getting Started and Tutorial question

The HTML Template is essentially a block of HTML containing tokens of the form: "[COLUMN_NAME]" where COLUMN_NAME is the name of a column in your query. The Template is repeated for each row of the resultset and the tokens are replaced with the value of that column.

To do what you want would require some grouping and sub-report functionality, which is not present in the current version of the module. However, it is something that is being considered and it has been logged as a feature request (RPT-5698).

Re: How-to, Getting Started and Tutorial question
Excellent. I am glad it is being considered.

Could you use some assistance creating the DNN Reporting documentation? If I had all the information I could probably put it into a user friendly formatted .pdf and into inline help (if I spent some time learning how that is setup).
