Limitations with HTML Visualizer

I have an HTML iframe link as one of the entries in a SQL database table and I am trying to display it in the report output, but I get nothing. I know that there is an encoding/decoding issue with the xml output (more information on how the html encoding/decoding works would be helpful if possible. Andrew :o) any ETA on the users manual?).  I tried just embeding one in the html template, but it also displays nothing.  Is there an limitation on using iframes or any other HTML?

thanks

Re: Limitations with HTML Visualizer

This may be related. I have a database table where I record video embed codes.  <embed object .. etc. It's just the raw html embed code.
Whenever I display it in an html template it shows nothing. I've even added some plan text in the database table before and after the video embed code and the text shows normally but no content shows from the video embed code.

The Grid Visualizer displays the data from this same table without any problems.

I thought this might help, thanks.

Re: Limitations with HTML Visualizer

If the data is HTML encoded in the database (i.e. "&lt;..."), then it will be passed to the HTML visualizer encoded. In Reports Module 5.0, there you can now enter a comma separated list of Columns to HTML Encode or HTML Decode BEFORE passing to the Visualizer. If you use this to HTML Decode that column, the HTML Visualizer should render the tags correctly.

BTW, Users Guide is coming :), I'm going to try and set up a Wiki and put what I've got in there so the community can update it as necessary.

Re: Limitations with HTML Visualizer

I played around a little more with this and noticed that if don't add it to the HTML decode list, that it does show up in the souce and on the screen(with the &lt...), but if I do add it to the decode list then it does not show up at all on the screen or in the source.

I tried adding a hard coded one to the html template just to see what it would do and it also does not show up in the source. I verified the iframe syntax was correct (it works in the Text/HTML module).

I have another HTML link in the database that I extract with the report tool (a simple link around a image) and that that seems to decode and display just fine. I am thinking this may be a bug???

thanks ( and looking forward to the manual :o)

Re: Limitations with HTML Visualizer

I'm able to get it to show <font> tags just fine but not <embed> codes.
