Error While Executing the Data Source

When I attempt to run my report I receive the following error:

There was an error executing the data source: An error occurred while executing the data source (Code: -2146232008): ORA-01036: illegal variable name/number

The query string that I provide works correctly when executing against the database( select * from proc_names).

Generally this error means there is a problem with a variable that I am passing but in this case I am not passing any variables.

Will the report module work with ad-hoc queries or with stored procedures only?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Derek

Re: Error While Executing the Data Source

Derek,
With the error provided above, I'm assuming that you're trying to pull data from an oracle data source (hence the oracle error #)... The Report Module should work against an oracle data source but I'm not sure which version of the module you're using..
I don't think you will be able to do the select * from storedprocedure like you've mentioned above (unless you put that in as an example).. In general, if you're calling a stored proc, you'll have to provide the parameters and make sure that one of the parameters in the sproc itself is a cursor type to return back the results...

Re: Error While Executing the Data Source

Can you pass a generic query into the field for "Query", for example "select * from tablename", or does the field for "Query" take only stored procedures?

Thanks.

Re: Error While Executing the Data Source

You can do both - the trick with stored procedures is getting it to recognize the cursor you're pushing the output with (from the stored proc)... I know with the oracle version of the reports module, I made some tweaks to get it to recognize the output parameters (this is in the core oracle dataprovider engine itself) so that this would work as expected but not sure if some workaround was made on the sql server version that's out there.

Re: Error While Executing the Data Source

I am still having issues executing a simple query and receive the ORA-01036: illegal variable name / number, but I am not passing any variables. In a simple database on the MSSQL side I can run the same query without a problem, any ideas?

Thanks for your help.
