Compiling the source code

Hello Good People-

I am simply trying to compile and run the source code to set up a dotnetnuke site.   After adding several namespaces to the web.config, the solution compiled successfully.  However, when I start the site, I get a "object reference not set" error.

Is this downloadable source meant to be compiled and ran directly?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Greg

Re: Compiling the source code

To answer your question - yes the DNN source code can be compilled BUT ...

DNN is based on a modular system that is intended to work without the need to EVER compile the dnn SOURCE code.

All you should need to do is copy the install version of DNN onto a webserver - set up some config settings to the database and
fire up the website - DNN will handle the rest of the work for you.

A question - For what reason are you trying to compile the SOURCE code.

If this is the first time you have worked with DNN - I would suggest following the various guides on the site to get a DNN site installed and running first.
