Creating and assigning a user folder on registration

Hi all,

I wonder if anybody has attempted this.  I need to create a new folder for a user on registration so that they can upload their files into their own private area.  If anybody has any thoughts on this or can point me in the right direction would be a great help!  I know you can buy custom modules for this but I would like to create the module and code myself where possible.

BTW: I am using Speerio file manager Pro 3.01 to view the files.  If anybody can assist on telling me how I can programmatically point the home directory for each user using this control that would be amazing.

Cheers,

Mike

Re: Creating and assigning a user folder on registration

If you are a programmer or can hire one... The "tightest" solution would be to create your own module to handle user registration. Basically you configure the site to use a certain page as the Login page (This is configurable in the Admin page) and on that page you put your login module. When a person registers you call the same Core methods the Core login module is calling to create the user, but you can easily create the directories and assign permissions you need.

If you are not a programmer or don't want to hire one, you can also use a purchased module for this purpose.  Take a look at the modules available from DataSprings, in particular, and see if they don't meet your needs.

Re: Creating and assigning a user folder on registration

Thanks ever so much Michael for guding me on the best way to tackle this.  I am a coder (originally Delphi) converting over to ASP .NET side of things more and more, so probably will attempt this myself.  As you say worst case scenario I can always hire someobody!

Fantastic work Michael on the tutorials and general advice.  The DNN community are lucky to have you!

Cheers,

Mike

Re: Creating and assigning a user folder on registration

Cheers for this Joe.  I want to do the work myself or hire somebody but will take a look at the Datasprings stuff anyway. This way I can keep my options open if need be.

Thanks again.

Mike
