Module developed but not rendering

hi

this may seem like a layman problem. I have developed a module using LINQ to SQL as in Michael's tutorials. while the directory structure is fine and the project compiles fine i am facing issues getting it renedered on the portal.

i am using DNN 4.8.4. the module was developed and then added to the portal using "Create New Module" of the Host -> Module Definitions. In the module definition i added a new definition and then a new control (with key etc defined).. next i added a page in the portal and added the module to the page. However, the module is not rendering at all on the page. there is simply no display. the module is not visible in host or anonymous view.

Could someone suggest what should i be looking at to fix this problem.

cheers

Abhishek

Re: Module developed but not rendering
The 'default' control of your module should NOT have a KEY defined .. leave it blank

Re: Module developed but not rendering

AK:

Are you saying that you only get a blank page???  No error messages???

If that is the case, then you may be in the right path.  Another question, how many controls you have on the module?  Just the control using LINQ?  If that is the case, then the module may be working and your query is just not retrieving any records.

I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but just in case, make sure that you have some basic label controls on your module so that they show regardless of the result of the query.  Also, make sure that your basic functionality of the control is in the View module and that your module definition points to it properly.

Also, check user rights to the module.  Does it work if you login as Admin for instance?

Again, the fact that you are not getting errors is interesting, most people start by getting errors first.

Re: Module developed but not rendering

Steve is right it's probably that you have a key defined on your view control. It should be blank like this:

Re: Module developed but not rendering

thank you. removing the key on the view control solved the problem.
