Extending a module

i want to add some custom properties to some dnn moduler. Because dnn modules are open source i can easyly change source code, compile the module and install customized module to my dnn host. The problem starts with module updates by dnn. If i customize the previous version, i can not install updated module because it will override my customizations. Is there any way to manage this?

Re: Extending a module

In my opinion, if you change standard functionality into new one then it means your module is different module than before. You should use another name.

Automatic updating is impossible since you create your own version than what standard module offered. If module name is the same, then the last will override your customizations. That's the consequences, except you create your own with different module name.
