Compile in which version 

What version should I be compiling a new module in before releasing it out into the wild?

It was developed on 4.8.4, but should I scoot back to 4.6.2 and recompile before distributing?

You should compile it to the minimum version of the API that has the items you need.

I typically build on 4.6.0 or 4.7.0 to take advantage of specific features included in each release.
