Title Link vs Download

Hello,

I've come across a problem and am not sure how to fix it. When a User clicks on the "Title" of a form that is an Excel document, it opens in IE and looks like an Excel document, but when sending using the "Send Page by Email" function in IE, the email is just a mess of code.

However, if a User clicks the "Download" link, it opens in Excel like normal and emails as it normally would under "Send To -> Mail Recipient."

Is there a way to have the "Title" link open in Excel just like the "Download" link? Or is there another work around?

Re: Title Link vs Download

If I recall correctly that is actually a browser setting that causes it to open in the browser.

I think to change anything it would require modifications of the title link.  You could possbily add a target="_blank" to it which MIGHT fix the issue.

Re: Title Link vs Download

Mitch is right.  That is a client setting.  It is surprisingly not found in the IE settings though.  Fixing this for you will not fix it for anyone else.  The only fix for everyone else is to manually edit the module markup as Mitch suggests.  However, if you are interested in how to fix this, here you go (at least in Windows XP).

  1. Go to your Folder Options snapin/dialog.  This can be done by going into your Control Panel and choosing "Folder Options", or by choosing "Folder Options" from the Tools menu while in Windows Explorer.
  2. Once there, choose the "File Types" tab.
  3. Scroll down in the "Registered File Types" area until you find the Excel file type you want to change (e.g., "XLS").
  4. Click on the file type to highlight it, and then click the "Advanced" button below.
  5. This brings up the "Edit File Type" dialog.
  6. Uncheck the "Browse in Same Window" checkbox.
  7. Click "OK" until you exit out of all of the dialogs.

That's it!  It looks like a lot above, but it only takes a few moments.

Thanks for the extra info, I never found the time to dig in and find the setting...

No problem.  That was a flashback from when my other job was tech support.  It really is a hidden setting when you think about it.
