Adding document permissions via roles

Hello,

<vent>I'm a bit frustrated with the out of date documentation for DNN, so I find myself spending a lot of time on google or posting here. I'm really hoping with DNN 5 around the corner that we see a big improvement here!</vent>

I'm wondering how to use the dnn:modulepermissionsgrid functionality to control access to individual documents? The business requirements I have are to have something very similar to what Document Manager Pro provides but we don't need all the other features of that module. Additionally that would severely reduce our ability to add functionality moving forward. I'd like to work with someone on adding this feature to the core module, but being new to the DNN framework and community, but not to ASP, I'm hoping to meet someone who would be interested in even just pointing me in the right places.

Thanks,

Todd

Re: Adding document permissions via roles

Todd,

The best way to control visibility is to simply create different storage folders for the documents.

If you create a folder for each role, then upload the documents to the respective folder, the documents module will only display the files that the user has permission to see.

Re: Adding document permissions via roles

I also need this feature but manually adding over 100 folders doesnt seem like a very good option. This should really just be controlled via a drop down on the editdocs.ascx

Joe,

I am sure that you could modify the documents module to attach a view preference for individual documents, but out of the box it isn't an option.
