2 Problems with Documents Module

Hi,

I am using the current documents module and I am having the following problems

1) Sort Function - the sort function does not seem to function properly, I have tried using the sort index but it seems very hit or miss

2) Title Link - The title links used to open documents in the browser do not work and just show an empty browser.  This have no problem with txt files but the problem seems to lie with pdfs.

I would much appreciate your help as im currently migrating documents and need this sorting.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: 2 Problems with Documents Module

Tom,

When you setup the sort order are you sure to add item item so it displays as an item of the sort order.  I do believe that this functionality works in the previous version.  If you are still having troubles I can setup a new DNN install to look at it.  (all of my installations have the beta 4.x version of the module).

I would ensure that there is not a file type issue on the browser that is preventing PDF's from opening with Acrobat.

Re: 2 Problems with Documents Module

The Title link to PDFs is a known issue that is part of the DNN core.  You'll encounter similar behavior if you use the Links module to have a link pointing to a PDF file within your site or you set up a page as a link to a file.

The simplest fix for PDFs using the Documents module is to show a Download column and NOT use Show Title Link.

For Links and links to PDFs from page tabs, you need to link as a URL and manually enter the path to the file.

Mike, thanks for posting that, I knew I remembered hearing this a while back, but I couldn't remember the specifics.

Re: 2 Problems with Documents Module

I have resolved the problems with your help.

1) I turns out that I not added sort index in my sort order menu in model settings

2) The pdf problem turned out to be adobe rather than my site.  I was on V6.0 of adobe reader but now i have upgraded to 8.1.1 the problem has been resolved.  Im not sure if it was the version or the setting but my fellow employees didnt share the same problem.

Thanks for you swift responses.

Cheers,

Tom
