what do you think about the v4 events module?

Peter asked those of us who downloaded the beta to give some feedback.I downloaded the 401 and found it in good working order. That is positive... Unfortunately, the configurability and skinability of the module could be better... hum

IMHO, this is a major showstppper in any environment where "looking good" is of importance. Recently I had a question by a designer client of my how asked me how we could make the detailed view less technical (his exact words). What should be done is "tokenfy" the module in the way the announcement module works (the newsarticle module of ventrian is another good example). For instance if I want to build a event kalender for the coming year, I don't need the start time or end time. Who cares if some event on November 15th starts at 9:30 am. Your milage may vary, but for me this inability to use something like [STARTDATE:d] is of concern.

Some other details:

  • location: if you didn't enter a url location, it still being styled as a link
  • link to detailed view: from an visitor perspective this not always needed

Thanks for your efforts,

Peter

Re: what do you think about the v4 events module?

Hi Peter,

I agree with your comments about the RC1 current release, it needs to be made more flexible/templated. The good news is that this is exactly what is planned in the next release, however this is likely to be some months away. The following link to Gemini, specifically mentions the detail display - EVT-7386 - but I would expect this to include List/Month/Week//Emails/Tooltip as well. This will undoubtedly evolve in stages....

Cheers
Roger
