Seeking basic event setup help

I'm trying to set up a page listing meetings for the club site I'm building. Additionally I want to have the next three meetings listed on the main page.

I'm looking for basic step by step instructions for setting this up.

I have put an event module on the main page. I have put a second event module on the page dedicated to the schedule.

The requirement is a list view on both pages. But when I'm in list view I can not enter any events. The add menus do not show up at all (I'm logged in as Admin)

TIA

John
