Type or namespace DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML does not exist???

First of all, I understand that the HTML/Text editor became part of the core framework back in version 4.5. But since then I have seen a few people ask about this but noone ever seems to reply with much if anything. Everytime I try to reference anything under the HTML namepsace, I get "Type or namespace DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML does not exist."

I'm referencing the DotNetNuke.dll, but still nothing. So if the DotNetNuke.Modules.Html namespace is not being included in the DotNetNuke.dll, then how do I access the classes underneath it like HtmlTextController??? What do I reference? The HTML/TEXT editor files don't seem to have an issue with it. I just want to display the HTML text for my custom module. I have taken care of the Edit page, just hte View page isn't working out well.

Does anyone know how to do this or what I should reference? I have searched for 4 days now and I can't find anything!

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Re: Type or namespace DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML does not exist???

Hi Corey,

The DotNetNuke core does not reference HtmlTextController.  It is a class located in your website directory at app_code/HTML/HtmlTextController.vb.  If you wish to utilize this in an external assembly, you will somehow have to gain a reference to this automatically-compiled assembly.  I know that there is a way, but it is not something that I have needed to do.

Hope this helps!

Re: Type or namespace DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML does not exist???

I would also be interested in knowing how to reference a JIT assembly that doesn't have a dll. I've had the same problem for the Oracle data provider for some of the core modules and my solution was creating a dummy dll that had the neccessary classes in it which I could then reference in my project that needed a reference to the class from the JIT assembly...

Re: Type or namespace DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML does not exist???

Hi Sanjay,

You'll need to explore asp.net website precompilation.  There is a msbuild switch "fixednames" that causes the compiler to generate static assembly names.  These assemblies can then be reliably referenced.  I'm 99% certain that VS supports the fixednames switch somewhere in its website property pages.  Google "asp.net precompilation fixedname" for more information than I'm able to provide.

That said, I also recall DNN having problems with precompilation.  I do not specifically recall what the problem was, but it may not be possible or feasable to do.  Proceed with caution!

All in all, I would strongly reccomend against referencing classes in the App_Code directory from an external assembly for all but very experienced developers.  These are kludgy solutions, at best.
