HTML/Text Adds html tags , anyway to prevent that 

My client enters content in an html/text module on their site. They don't like that the module adds <p> </p> tags ( the text has too much space then) ad they are entering single lines. Is there anyway to prevent this since they don't want to go in html mode and remove <p> tags?
