Right to edit module content but not page settings, how?
Hi,

I gave a security role edit rights on HTML modules, but not on the page level, so they could edit the content of an HTML module. I do not want them to have full rights on the page, installing modules, changing rights, skins etc.

Now, when users in those role groups log on, how do they access the edit functions? Whe I try, I just get a regular page, but no editing links / tools. Did I miss something? How should I do to allow users to edit module content but not page settings?

Re: Right to edit module content but not page settings, how?

I am experiencing the same thing on my 4.5.5 install on my local development environment, but my test server is working fine... Weird.

Cheers!

Re: Right to edit module content but not page settings, how?

Are you saying you can give users in a security role the rights to edit only the content in the HTML/Text modules and not be able to edit the whole page?

How are you doing this? I've tried several ways but the best I can come up with is the content editors get the "basic" toolbar when the HTML/Text module is not displayed and they get everything, including the ability to edit the whole page, when the HTML/Text module is displayed.

Please let me know what you are doing.

Thanks in advance!!!

Much thanks and appreciation!! Mr Happy

Re: Right to edit module content but not page settings, how?

I have found that in certain instances if you have "display container" unchecked in the module settings that the edit prompts won't appear for the role that has edit rights, but it depends heavily on what type of container is in use.

So, you might look at that and see if displaying the container will change the behavior.

Of course also, the most obvious thing to look for is if the page is in View / Edit / or Design mode when logged in as a user that even might have those rights to the page.

HTH,
Eric
