Re: How to use Replace Tokens in HTML Module Settings

Hi Sebastian,

I tried looking at the Announcement module using Visual web Developer and it did not make sense to me.  Could you give me more guidance?

Also, when I look at Announcements.ascx in the Announcements folder of DesktopModules, it says that the .vb file cannot be found.  However, the module works fine.

Anyway, I want to be able to create my own tokens that can be used by other modules.  If you can point me in the direction where I can get info on how to do this or maybe more detailed instructions on which part of the framework I need to modify, it would really help me.

Thanks.

Re: How to use Replace Tokens in HTML Module Settings

Rick,

please be more specific about your requirements.

Text/HTML uses DotNetNuke.Services.TokenReplace, to replace tokens in the text and does not create its own tokens for internal use

Announcements 4 is a WAP module, you need to install source code to edit and VS 2005/2008 Standard, Pro or Team version to compile. This module creates its own tokenreplace class to be able to use internal tokens for skinning.

If you plan to extend token replace for general use (by all modules and Skin objects), you need to extend core token replace, which requires modifications in the framework, which is not recommended.

Re: How to use Replace Tokens in HTML Module Settings

Hi Sebastian,

Perhaps I should start with just my basic requirement.  I want to be able to add custom tokens to the HTML module so that the module will replace the token with a text string that corresponds to that token.  The text will be generated by a sql statement that will retrieve/examine/calculate data from a table.

Re: How to use Replace Tokens in HTML Module Settings

Rick,

this would be possible with a customized, extended version of Text/HTML - but for a single data row only, because TokenReplace does not provide indexing features. What is your intention to use TokenReplace instead of a generic data module like Reports or SQLSelectedGridView from www.tressleworks.ca?
