Using a Session Variable in the Querystring 

Hi,

I'm running DNN 4.8.0, with Iframe module 03.02.03. I want to use the iFrame using a previously stored session variable (ie. session[myVar]) in the querystring variable (ie. qVar) of the URL (so http://someurl.com?qVar=session[myVar]) .  It doesn't look like there is a way to read session variables so I was wondering what steps I should take next?

 

Perhaps I should get the source and create a custom iFrame module taht specifically reads the session?

Since Session is an object of ASP.NET - it's only accessible from the server code. So altering the source code is the way to go.

Just keep in mind that your alterations will disappear if you uprgade to the next IFrame version. So, you'll need to keep adding that piece in the future.

note as well, that session variables are not used in DotNetNuke core development, as they are not suppported in web farm scenarios.

Ryan, I suggest updating to the newest IFrame release 4.3.0. It is a Web Source Project (WSP), which means that you are able to adopt your changes without any need to recompile. 
You can also add it as enhancement request to the tracker (http://support.dotnetnuke.com). Even if Sebastian is right that Session variables are not used in DotNetNuke core development, using them usually speeds up development in inhouse projects.
