How querystring parameters work?
Sorry for such stupid question, but I still can't catch: how to work with queryparameters.
No documents provided to answer on my simple question
I use DNN 3.3.5. Downloaded IFrame 3.2.
Is it possible to pass parameters from parent window to the IFrame or not?
If so, would you please explain how to pass them?
As an example: I'd like to pass in parent querystring the followind .../default.aspx?userid=12345
How to pass the userid value to IFrame page? So, I could catch the userid in IFrame page?

Once more sorry if I haven't found answer to such simple question.

Re: How querystring parameters work?
current version of iFrame has issues with querystring parameters, please be patient, until the corrected version has passed the release tracker.

Re: How querystring parameters work?

Sebastian, is right, but let us assume that you compild IFrames on your own or you downloaded a fix from some where else.

  1. Switch link type to url and set the source to your page, e.g. http://example.com/default.aspx
  2. Click on the [+] before query string parameters, click on Add query string parameter
  3. Set Name to userid  and Value to User ID
  4. Save the parameter
  5. save the Iframe setting
  6. done

If you have the original, unpatched IFrame release an error will rise. Otherwise it will work now.

Re: How querystring parameters work?

Thank you, leupold and Stefan Cullmann for fast reply!

I downloaded pre-compiled IFrame 3.2 without source.

From the very beginning (before a installed IFrame 3.2) any use of querystring rose me an exception. With IFrame 3.2 I don’t have such exception. But still can’t get parameters from querystring of parent (main) window.

When I add querystring parameter, what kind of value should it be (Static value, Path-Through or any other)?

May be It’s not correct way of using IFrame?!

What for “URL Parameter” parameter could be used in IFrame settings.

As it was mentioned before, It would be great if somebody would write any documentation with examples how to use IFrame. DNN society would appreciate such documentation!

Maybe I’m not correct with explanation in what way I try to use IFrame.

Let me explain one more time:

I have a DNN page with IFrame module. When somebody enter in browser address string, for instance, http://localhost/mysite/SearchResultseng/tabid/37/Default.aspx?userid=12345  (the page is with my IFrame), I’d like the .aspx page inside IFrame would catch the userid value.

May I do it with current version of IFrame? Or maybe there is any other way to pass the parameter from main address querystring to IFrame?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Ok, I thought you want to pass the UserId of your current DNN user as parameterfor the IFrame url.

But you want to pass through query string parameters, so you will add the foolowing query string parameter

Name: userid --> This is the name of your new internal parameter
Value: Pass through --> To pass through query strings
Additional arg:  userid  -> Name of the outer querystring

Other example:

Your page will be called with query string "OuterParam", eg. http://example.com/?OuterParam=4711,but you need  the value of t he Outerparam inside the IFrame as InnerParam, for example: http://innerside.com/?InnerParam=4711

So you add a Query Parameter like this:

Name: InnerParam
Value: PassThrough
Additional Arg: OuterParam
