Simply add a Text/HTML Module to the page, click the Edit Text link (or action menu item), type the text you want to display, select the text you want to link, click the toolbar icon with the globe and chain links, specify the URL, and, finally, apply any formatting you want. This should work. If that doesn't work, click the HTML tab and modify the <a href="..."> tag manually. You'll have to know minor HTML for the latter.

Text/HTML can be very useful when you're trying to come up with flexible interfaces. It's not as dynamic as some other modules, but it is definitely flexible. Glad you were able to get it to work!
