HEY!  Would someone out there at DNN please have the common courtesy to acknowledge these completely legitimate concerns/posts in this thread? 

I manage several sites with different versions of DNN: 4.5.3 through 4.7.0 and news feed module doesn't work in any of them.  I get the same type of error message when I'm logged in (Host) to any of the sites:

Could Not Connect To http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/rss/ncf/news. You Should Verify The Source Address Is Valid And That Your Hosting Provider Has Configured Their Proxy Server Settings Correctly.

As soon as I log out, the error message changes to this:

News Feed Is Not Available At This Time. Error message:Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

The newsfeed address is valid.  The module worked back when I was using DNN 4.4.1.  It stopped with 4.5.3. 

The problem still exists in DNN 4.8.0.  Is there an official answer to this ? In my case, it shows error and immediately hangs my DNN site. I have to delete the module from SQL and restart the App pool.
