Query String Value as Default?

I'm experimenting with the XML/XSL module and the UDT.  I have an instance of the XML/XSL that links to another page and appends the URL with some query parameters.  Is there a way to make those parameters the default value for new records in the UDT?

For example:  the URL is http://www.devodog.us/CityofHeroes/Characters/CharacterDetails/tabid/157/Default.aspx?UserID=42&CharacterID=118730&Server=Triumph&Supergroup=Myth%20Inc.

I'd like the default value of the CharacterID field in the UDT to be 118730, the Server field to default to Triumph and the Supergroup field to default to Myth%20Inc.

(PS.  This is data from the City of Heroes MMO.)

Re: Query String Value as Default?

I am sorry, values for new records cannot be taken from URL, you will need to create a cutomized version of the UDT module.

Re: Query String Value as Default?

I was worried that would be the answer.  I think that if this could be added in a future release, it would extend the functionality of the UDT even further.

Re: Query String Value as Default?

Mike, I like your idea.

UDT already supports Tokens for Default Values. The TokenReplace engine retrieves values out of different kind of data sources, and  having Tokens like [Querystring:Server] or [forms:Supergroup] would be amazing.

Stefan,

That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of [Querystring:Server].  I also realized that not only would I need to use that token as the default value for a field, but also a filter for the UDT.

If you visit http://www.devodog.us/CityofHeroes/Characters/tabid/156/Default.aspx (it's a bit slow), you'll see the XML/XSL.  Click on the link to Hero Zero and it takes you to another page with a different XML/XSL (for that specific character).  I want to be able to add additional records (pictures) in the UDT listed below, but only show the ones with the corresponding CharacterID.  This way, I can add related content to XML data that can't (or shouldn't) be directly modified by a user on the DNN site.
