custom database
is there anyway to connect UDT to an already existing sql server DB on another server?
in other words, I want UDT to display the content of a table (with standard CRUD abilities on those items) which resides on a separate database than the DotNetNuke DB which usually holds UDT content.

Re: custom database

please be informed, that this is not  use case of UDT, please have a look at Reports module. Besides, there are 3rd party modules for this purposes, if you are interested, I can provide you with an enhanced example from my company's developement.

Re: custom database
I figured as much. i was thinking, since it plugs into a local provider in the backend, i might be able to just swap that provider with a different provider (in the source code i mean).

if that's much easier said than done, than i would be interested to see those 3rd parties you're talking about, and you're company's as well. thanks leupold!

Re: custom database
giving the reports module a go, i almost think these 2 modules should be merged. i could be missing something essential, as I'm quite new to DNN development; however, now that table searching/filtering is being introduced to UDT, seems everyone using the reports module will want them too. as far as reports being a read-only version of UDT, disabling the "edit" checkbox for all users can serve the same purpose.

i guess what i'm getting is this:
UDT is a feature-enhanced Reports, but without custom SQL queries / DB connections. merge the two and you have the bets of both worlds.

Re: custom database

Reports and UDT are not related anyhow.
