Can UDT do this...

I'm hoping Sebastian might be able to shed some light on whether UDT can do this sort of thing:

The most basic functionality I require is as follows:

  • A site owner stores bottles of wine for people - like a rental wine cellar.
  • The site owner would manually update an online database of stored wines (UDT?) .
  • The important feature is that clients could sign in and only see the wines that belong to them
  • Only the site owner should be able to see all wines of all clients and edit them.

The tricky bit is how to let the site owner assign entries to specific users and then how to restrict the displayed entries to the ones the user owns. it's like having user-specific content.

As well, the site owner can't have admin permissions. They need to be able to edit entries with only module edit permissions. UDT seems to work like this already so that's good.

Can this be done in UDT, or perhaps another module? I've assessed hundreds of modules and haven't got one for this type of function. UDT seems close, but I don't know for sure.

Any advice is very much appreciated!

Rob

Re: Can UDT do this...

Hi rob,

using the new userprofileLink datatype, you can specify the Wine owner per record, e.g. in a field owner. Second, use a filter statement like
"Owner_UDT_Original = [User:UserID] OR [User:Roles] Like '%Administrators%'

to limit view to desired records..

Re: Can UDT do this...

Pete,

the configuration I described does not use createdBy or updatedBy and does not provide security for editing rows. Rob asked for being able to limit view permission and this can be done by using a custom filter in UDT 3.5

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid I'm a complete noob as far as this module is concerned.

I had created a column with the User Profile Link type, but I find that when one adds a record it just has an empty field for the login name. Is there any way that this can be made to let one choose from a list of actual users.. or preferably their actual names? I'm not sure how the person entering data would work with this.

The other thing about adding the filter sounds like it is the right stuff, but I'm getting an error message. I went into Manage Table and pasted the code into the "Filter Statement" field under Grid Table settings.

Owner_UDT_Original = [User:UserID] OR [User:Roles] Like '%Administrators%'

Is that the correct place? The page says "Unsupported Filter Statement (Cannot find column [User:Roles].)" and when I examine the Tokens Help link, I can't see [User:Roles] listed.

Any further advice is greatly appreciated.

Rob
