Error detection and reporting addition?

Hi Stefan and the XML team,

just ran into another issue that might make a good feature enhancement in the next release.

I would like a way to detect and respond to (by writing out custom strings to the browser) errors when trying to find the xml source.

right now, if the xml source is slow and the request times out, or if the xml is badly formed or whatever other problem exists, I simply get a blank page. I'm glad it doesn't just give back strange  messages, but I used to be able to detect that in my old primitive xml reads in .asp, and give the user some idea that something had gone wrong. On timeout I can ask them to refresh the page, etc.

It would be good if this was part of the admin interface: error codes to detect and response to output.

thanks for all your work on this module,

Tom Van Wynen

======= a sample of the detection script I use in .asp:

'Wait for up to 3 seconds if we've not gotten the data yet"this page is having difficulties loading ..."

Else

If (xml.readyState <> 4) Or (xml.Status <> 200) Then

'Abort the XMLHttp request

xml.Abort

text =

"Problem communicating with remote server..."

Else

text = xml.ResponseText

End If

End If

Response.write(text)

If xml.readyState <> 4 then

xml.waitForResponse 3

End If

'Did an error occur? If so, use a default value for our data

If Err.Number <> 0 then

text =

forms & Lists (UDT5.0) will be the next major release of the User Defined Table project.
A first Preview is available, though it requires DotnetNuke 5 (Beta 5).
