Re: Installing 4.41 on XP Home
To make sure I understand your issue, you have installed VWD and SQL Express and have installed the DNN template into VWD.  You are now trying to create a DNN project but not seeing the DNN template to choose?

If this is correct, please make sure to choose VB as the language.  The template is only available for VB.  If you are trying to use C# you will not see it.

Hi,

The new installer for 441 is currently in beta. If you want to test it out and see if it works for you send me your email.

Re: Installing 4.41 on XP Home
Hi Antonio,

There are a few of us newcomers to DNN trying to install 4.4.1 for the first time and each of us receiving the same error when using the "DotNetNuke_4.4.1_StarterKit.vsi".

I am running:
Windows XP Pro, SP2
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition, SP1
DNN 4.4.1

Error:
When running the StarterKit.vsi, during installation one module fails to install citing an error;
"The compiled modules could not be installed."  after I click for more information it says:
"Installation stopped because the directory for the ProjectType value did not exist.  The
project type is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio."

There are a couple of threads on this in the installation forum, but we are getting desperate for
some answer on how to proceed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. eg. What folder
to create and what to put in it, to manually correct this problem?

Regards, Colin

Re: Installing 4.41 on XP Home

Hi Colin,

Unfortunately I am not very proficient with the StarterKit as it is another project from the one that I am working with. I have also never used Visual Web Developer, I use the full blown Visual Studio.

If I remember correctly, the templates (StarterKit files) are extracted to your My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Templates...

In this folder there are multiple folders for each type of template:

  • ItemTemplates (i.e. Modules, Skins)
  • Project Templates (DotNetNuke framework etc)

Check and see if you have anything similar on your machine.
