Re: Installation Challenge
Hello,

I am new at this DNN stuff and trying to install the new 4x version in exchange to the 3x that was installed by my hosting company.  I'm now in the process of FTP-ing the new version and noticed that in the Config folder, there is no Backup.  So should I leave the old one or delete all of the Config folder and just put the new one in?  Also, the new version does Not  have the Desktop Module folder at all.  Is that right?  Please let me know before I continue.  I want to get it working right.

Thanks, HAW

First, this is the installer forum.  If you are planning to use the beta installer (4.4.1), I did have problems when trying to use it with upgrades. It worked fine on new installs.

The upgrade does not have the Desktop module thats true, but that doesnt mean its still not relative.  As a matter of course I recommend making your own backup before installing, especially you web.config, but I have been downloading a complete copy of the site.

Let me warn you , I had difficulties with my site after going from 4.3 to 4.4.1 when I upgraded. Difficulties that I was not able to recover from.  I couldnt add modules to pages.  I wouldnt get any error, the screen would refresh when I clicked on add but no modules would appear in the panes.  I couldnt edit certain modules any longer.

I resync the files , tried reloading, the only thing I couldnt try was deleting and starting again. I needed the hosting company for that and they wouldnt comply for some reason, even when I offered to pay for it.

Bottom line I would contact my hosting company and let them know what I was attempting to do. They may offer to do it for you, which may be the safer route.

Re: Installation Challenge
Hello, Thanks for your input.  Actually, I downloaded the install and not the upgrade version and still it didn't have the Desktop module in it.  What's up with that?   Why would that be.  Does anybody have an answer to this?  Thanks

Re: Installation Challenge
On a new install the DeskTopModules directory is created when the 2 default modules are installed and on an upgrade you would not want to overwrite what you have in your Desktop directory with what would be in the install.

Re: Installation Challenge
So are you telling me to leave the existing DeskTopModule from the 3x version and it will work fine with the new 4.41 version?  Thanks
