First time installer usage notes...

Downloaded the latestest version of the installer, and used it.  After reading the readme.txt, gave it a try. The app notified me that DNN version 04.03.04 was going to be installed, and true to its' word did install that version.  I had no issues using it to perform the installation, including the IIS setup, and database.

Now, the questions I have are these ( I apologize if I missed the doc where this is answered):

1) Is the installer limited to a specific version of DNN?  I tend to use different versions depending on the nature of the support given to a client.  I looked at the batch examples, but don't see where I can set the version of DNN to install.

2) Is the source code available?  Maybe just project team members have access to the source, huh.

Did notice a cosmetic thing, maybe more are noted in the issue tracker, so I'll go there to be sure before posting.  Otherwise, it was a good feeling going through the installer, from start to seeing the new site created come up.

This installation process has come a long way with the addition of this installer app.  Documentation of the app with tips and tricks would be very useful for the novice, but I give the app a 4 out of 5 rating.  It did the job on my XP Pro SP2 machine using SQL 2005.   Will do more testing...

Re: First time installer usage notes...

Phil,

did you download the 4.4.1 installer, available at the DNN download page? This new version contains 4.4.1 of DNN.

Re: First time installer usage notes...
Besides, DNN 4.5.0 will contain a setup wizard, that will guide through the installation and upgrade of DNN packages.

Re: First time installer usage notes...

Phil,

I believe the current installer is still only built for one DNN version at a time.

I think it was Antonio's intention when he took over the project to rebuild the installer from the ground up (it's in one of his blogs) and use VB.NET for the installer (the current one is still created with INNO setup).

Not sure if the source for the installer will be released (I'm also interseted if much has changed since I was working  on it a long time ago )

Re: First time installer usage notes...

If you go to the downloads page you should see the installer for 4.4.1.

Geert is also right on. I am planning on changing the entire installer to a vb based that will allow us to simply pick the DNN install zip file (whatever version you wish) and install.

The reason why I have not that yet is because many things are being changed in the way that DNN is installed including a new Web Install Wizard. I will start working on the new version as soon that 4.5 is released.

Hope this helps.
